About

Phillip Carruthers is an Associate Director at Bellandaine concentrating on engineering building services — mechanical, electrical, fire, hydraulics, and vertical transportation. He brings more than 50 years of building services experience as a contractor, consultant, and director across Australia and the UK, including founding and running a mechanical services design and construct business in Newcastle and three decades with an international building services consulting practice operating across Brisbane and London.

Prior to Bellandaine, Phillip served as Director of Engineering Services at one of Australia’s largest property advisory groups, delivering 10-year CapEx programmes, technical due diligence, and portfolio advisory services to institutional clients. His experience extends from design and construct projects across all property sectors — including specialist designs for heavy industry — through to complex, high-value occupied assets including major casino, retail, and landmark commercial properties.

Phillip’s depth of technical knowledge in building services systems is exceptional and genuinely rare. He offers capabilities beyond standard assessment work, including documentation, tendering, and management of rectification works identified through due diligence — a capability that turns findings into resolved problems.

His accreditations as an AIRAH Presidential Fellow, James Harrison Medallist, and ASHRAE Life Member reflect a career-long commitment to technical excellence in building services engineering.
